Lake Macquarie Radio Yacht Club Interclub – 26/27th August, 2017

Saturday the 26th October, dawned a clear morning where 16 10Rs gathered at Edwards Park, Booragul for Round 4 of the 10R interclub scratch event. The PRO, Graham Payne, as well as the LMRYC IOM contingent of Paul Jones and Mark Wilson set a windward/leeward course that suited the location nicely. The skippers meeting was ended with a minutes silence for the recent and sad passing of Arnold Grant’s wife, Ros. Ros was a lovely lady that graced LMRYC regattas over the years with her lovely corned beef and her delicious sweets and, of course, always a chat. She will be sadly missed...MORE HERE

NSW RC Laser Series Round 4 - 20th August

NSW RC Laser Series Round 4

Dobroyd Aquatic Club.

Morning Everyone,

With the last few days of howling winds, it was a relief to turn up for Round 4 of the NSW RC Laser Series at DAC to a very reasonable breeze coming out of the south west; and which remained reasonably constant all day.  The threat was that it was forecast to swing around to the south and beyond during the day; but it did not eventuate.  A few rainy clouds threatened during the day, but we ended with brilliant sunshine.

The course had to be adjusted a number of times to catch up with the wind, but it was relatively minor.  The biggest problem was to try and avoid the holes that stopped you dead if you were caught in one.

We sailed generally on B sails for the day; although a few C sails appeared at different times.  Sometimes, it was right on the limit of the B sail; but most of us persisted successfully.

Six enthusiastic skippers turned up to race, Maurie Fletcher and Paul Ziems sailing Boogies, Andrew Sands sailing his Paradox, Glenn Kinsela sailing a Starkers, Patrick O’Donnell sailing the Dreadnought and Garry Bromley sailing his Prime Number.

The weather was fine and sunny and the breeze was a very nice 10 to 15 knot westerly. A windward and return course of three laps was set using the start line as the leeward gate and a run to the finish on the final lap. Racing got under way after a short delay at about 10.20am.

NSW 10R Interclub Shield RD3

The Handicap regatta that was planned to be raced at Walka Water Works was going to be cancelled due to the course having a weed problem, now wanting the event to go ahead a couple of SCMYC members decided to have the event venue changed with the concurrence of the President so the event could go ahead. Bob Tonge, Grant Waring and short time member Phil Page along with the help of the Horizon Model Yacht club managed to put the event on.

Although poorly supported by the SCRYC members and most other clubs the event went ahead in testing conditions of westerly breeze up to 20 knots and C Rig all day, the dedicated supporters of our class who came to the event were well rewarded with some spectacular sailing and racing in a big swell and a large slop with huge troughs and consistent nose dives, all in all it was just a great day of 10r racing by those who keep our sport going through thick and thin.
